Body-Mind-Healing-Hastings-St-Leonards-East-Sussex-illustration-of-TRE-Tension-Stress-and-Trauma-Release-ExercisesTRE is a series of gentle exercises designed to help your body to release stress, tension and trauma. TRE helps you shake off tension naturally, and many people say they feel calmer, more content and relaxed after experiencing TRE. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking (sometimes called tremoring or vibrating), which calms down your nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, your nervous system gets chance to re-set and your body is encouraged to return to a state of balance. The spontaneous muscle vibrations generally feel pleasant and soothing, and TRE has helped thousands of people around the world.

TRE was developed by Dr David Berceli, who worked with people in extreme stress, and noticed that we have a natural reflex to contract or tighten when we experience stress and overwhelm. To release this excessive tension, we can then experience a natural reflex of trembling or shaking. You’ve almost certainly experienced this shakiness at some point when you’ve been feeling over-stimulated or overwhelmed, perhaps due to nerves, anxiety, excitement or a shock. We tend to try and stop the shaking, but in fact when it is experienced in a safe and controlled way it’s a healthy response that helps re-set your nervous system, flushing through the stress hormones and bringing your muscles back to a more optimal level of tone.

I am a Certified TRE Provider, trained by the TRE College. I can teach you how to do TRE on a one to one basis, or you can come with a friend, relative or partner and learn together. If you like, we’ll include other methods too, such as light touch or positive neuroplasticity, to enhance the effectiveness of the session.

I will guide you through a series of gentle exercises to slightly fatigue and stretch the major muscle groups, in order to invite in this natural tremoring. After the standing exercises, you’ll lie comfortably on the floor and let your body re-set in its own time and way. Sometimes the vibrations are as gentle as a purr, sometimes they can be much bigger, stronger movements. As long as you’re feeling comfortable and ok with the sensations, it’s all good. Your body naturally knows how to do this, and I will help you to stay grounded and present, and to get the best out of your experience of tremoring. At the end you’ll rest and relax, to allow time to integrate and assimilate the experience and enjoy your new level of relaxed awakeness.
